Flutist Lindsey Goodman is a soloist, recording artist, chamber collaborator, orchestral musician, educator, and clinician. Renowned for her “generous warmth of tone and a fluid virtuosity” (Charleston Gazette), Lindsey has performed solo and chamber concerts, taught masterclasses, and given presentations at countless series, festivals, and universities “with energy and artistry, conveying her exuberance and creativity” (Pittsburgh in the Round). Performances “played with conviction” (New York Times) have been heard across three continents, including at Carnegie Hall, Eastman School of Music, Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Google headquarters, University of Cincinnati College–Conservatory of Music, several National and Canadian Flute Association conventions, across China, and on Nobody Listens to Paula Poundstone.

A committed advocate for living composers and electroacoustic music, Lindsey “appears to know no fear in tackling the most demanding music” (Pittsburgh Tribune-Review) and is an active commissioner of new works with 150 world premieres to her credit. For over 18 seasons, she performed as solo flutist of the Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble. On her debut solo album, reach through the sky (New Dynamic Records), Lindsey “performs impeccably with superlative elegance and flair”, and her second solo release, returning to heights unseen (PARMA Recordings), is “an excellent album of compelling works expertly performed”. Both feature all commissioned pieces. Her third solo album, Etereo (PARMA Recordings), is "an enthralling album of new works for flute.” (The Flute View), and she can also be heard in solo, chamber, vocal, and orchestral performances on the New World, Albany, New Focus, and Navona labels, among others. Lindsey has given multiple professional recitals in New York City, performed concertos from Mozart to commissioned works in the United States and Canada, and been featured in live and recorded radio broadcasts on stations around the world.

Lindsey is principal flutist of the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra, adjunct lecturer of flute at Ashland University, Marietta College, and West Virginia State University, and solo flutist of the new music ensemble What Is Noise. She is a founding member of flute quartet PANdemonium4, the Leviathan Trio (flute, cello, and piano), and Chrysalis, a singing flutist and singing pianist duo, showcasing her training as a classical mezzo-soprano. A student of Robert Langevin and Walfrid Kujala, Lindsey received degrees from the Manhattan School of Music, Northwestern University, and Duquesne University. She resides in central Ohio with her husband, percussionist, composer, and educator Chris Carmean, and their dog Jack. www.LindseyGoodman.com

    JEFF ANTONIUK

    Saxophone

What could be better than a refreshing cup of tea and a conversation about music?! Let's hear some stories, perhaps a little live music itself, and maybe you'll get some of your questions answered, too!

    (Submit your question during registration)

Herbal, flavored, iced, hot, milky or even home-made tea - make something that's pleasurable for you as we enjoy a safe, socially-distanced, online musical conversation.

Jeff will be sharing his journey as a young Canadian kid who was going to be a physicist (and who was too scared to improvise) to becoming a full time jazz performer and educator. He's been a pioneer in online education, YouTube outreach, and virtual education platforms, although still not 100% sure how his cell phone works!

Most educators work with kids or college students, but he gravitated towards working with adults, generally in the 55 - 90 age range. Students who are serious about the music, and who have chosen it as “what they do” for the second half of their lives.

As a performer, he works with a variety of groups playing mostly acoustic and electric jazz these days. He has equal love for Duke Ellington and Miles Davis, Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Wonder.

Born in Edmonton Canada, and having lived in Nigeria as a child, saxophonist and educator Jeff Antoniuk has defined his musical life by creating and expanding communities. Antoniuk has worked personally with thousands of adult amateur and semi-pro musicians around the world, through his various successful jazz businesses, helping this underserved group of passionate jazz musicians reach their dreams and their potential.

Jeff’s Digging Deeper Jazz video series on You Tube has reached over two million viewers, with his weekly insights on how jazz players can gain real traction in their playing and understanding. While aimed at the adult audience, the Digging Deeper Jazz videos are used in high schools and colleges around the world by professors and students alike.

Antoniuk became clear that good jazz eduction is not about “more information.” Better education is based on more wisdom, and more community. His subscription web site, www.JazzWire.net is connecting adult musicians from over 25 different countries around the globe, and providing them with a place to support each other, to truly connect and work together, and to get great, actionable input. Jazz Wire is the “music university experience” for those who didn’t get to go to music university.

An Eastman Saxophones and Gonzalez Reeds Artist, Jeff is also internationally respected as both a master performer. He has received numerous awards and commissions, and has produced over 10 critically acclaimed albums over the years. He is currently the Artistic Director of both Maryland Summer Jazz and Jazz Band Masterclass, and has performed with the likes of Jimmy Haslip, Marcus Miller, Ingrid Jensen and Helen Sung.

Although a past university professor and guest lecturer, Jeff has dedicated his teaching life to working with adult amateur students through his own businesses. He loves working with these jazz fanatics, independent of their experience or ability level.

You can find him at www.JazzWire.net

    Dexter Kennedy - Organ

    "Organ Spectacular"

What could be better than a refreshing cup of tea and a conversation about music?! Let's hear some stories, perhaps a little live music itself, and maybe you'll get some of your questions answered, too!

    (Submit your question during registration)

Herbal, flavored, iced, hot, milky or even home-made tea - make something that's pleasurable for you as we enjoy a safe, socially-distanced, online musical conversation.

As the winner of the Grand Prix d’Interprétation at the 24th Concours International d’Orgue de Chartres, Dexter Kennedy has established himself internationally as “one of the greatest organists of our times” (Iceland Monitor). Praised for his “prodigious technique and grand style musicality” in The American Organist, his concert programs present performances that are fiery and historically informed, exciting both music connoisseurs as well as people who have never experienced the organ in concert setting. In addition to concertizing, Dexter Kennedy is a rising teacher, having taught at both the College of Wooster and Oberlin College Conservatory.

Mr. Kennedy is an active recitalist throughout both Europe and North America, having performed in great cathedrals, churches, and concert halls including: Notre-Dame de Paris; Berliner Dom; St. Bavokerk, Haarlem; Slovak Philharmonic Hall, Bratislava; Chartres Cathedral; Grossmünster, Zürich; Chichester Cathedral; Hallgrimskirkja, Reykjavik; Basilica of St. Nazaire, Carcassone; St. George’s, Hannover Square, London; Auditorio Manuel de Falla, Granada; San Luigi Dei Francesi, Rome; St. Willibrordus Basilika, Echternach, Luxembourg; and Bergen Cathedral. His performances have been heard at the St. Albans International Organ Festival, the 51st Bratislava Music Festival, the Bergen International Organ Festival, the London Handel Festival, the Eccles Organ Festival, the Arizona Bach Festival, the Conference of Roman Catholic Cathedral Musicians, and two regional conventions of the American Guild of Organists. In 2017 he was the lone American to be invited to perform at the Catédral Primada of Bogotá, Colombia, for the Bach en Bogotá Festival, where he performed for an audience of over 2,000 people as part of the first organized performances of Bach’s complete organ works in the country’s history. Also in demand as an orchestral player, Kennedy frequently performs with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. In December 2017 he performed and recorded with the orchestra Strauss’s Eine Alpensinfonie for future CD release under the baton of music director Andris Nelsons, and during the 2018-2019 season he performed with the ensemble at Carnegie Hall. His playing has been broadcast nationally on the American Public Media’s Pipedreams program. Recent concert highlights include: Wichita State University, Cornell University, Montreal Bach Festival, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and Arizona State University; he has also performed for many American Guild of Organists chapters in recent seasons, including Kansas City, Southern Nevada, Charleston, Atlanta, and Grand Rapids.

As a church musician, Kennedy currently serves as the Assistant Director of Music of Christ Church Grosse Pointe (Michigan) where he serves as the principal organist for all choral services and concerts and directs the training of the novice boy and girl choristers. He traveled with the Christ Church Choirs to England and Wales in the summer of 2014, Spain in 2016, to the UK 2017 for choral residencies at Salisbury Cathedral and Westminster Abbey, and again in 2018 at Durham and Canterbury Cathedrals. Additional choir tours as a freelance accompanist have taken Kennedy to the organ benches of St. Peter’s Basilica; La Sagrada Familia; Stephansdom, Vienna; St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin; and St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle. Kennedy’s previously held positions include Director of Music and Organist for Berkeley Divinity School at Yale University, Organ Scholar at St. Paul’s on the Green Episcopal Church, Norwalk, CT, and Organist for Marquand Chapel, Yale Divinity School.

Dexter Kennedy holds the Artist Diploma from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where he was a pupil of James David Christie. He holds a Master of Music Degree from the Yale School of Music and Institute of Sacred Music, where he was a recipient of the Robert Baker Award, as well as the Mary Baker Prize for Excellence in Organ Accompaniment. Kennedy has also studied under Olivier Latry, Martin Jean, Jeffrey Brillhart (improvisation), Arthur Haas and Webb Wiggins (harpsichord), and has attended several international organ festivals where he has coached with many distinguished European artists. In his spare time, he enjoys golfing and following the professional sports teams in his native Detroit.

More information about Kennedy and his schedule can be found at his website, www.dexterkennedy.com.

Dexter Kennedy is represented by Seven Eight Artists.

“My music is a refuge for the 16.2 million Americans caught in the vicious cycle of depression, and the 264 million affected by depression globally.” - Edwin Culver

EDWIN J. CULVER IS A CLASSICAL GUITARIST, COMPOSER, AND MUSIC TEACHER RESIDING IN SARASOTA, FLORIDA. HE PERFORMS RECITALS, DELIVERS LECTURES, AND COMPOSES ORIGINAL WORKS OF CLASSICAL MUSIC.

Culver hails from Flushing, Michigan, where he taught himself guitar at 16. He didn’t take formal lessons until attending Hillsdale College, where he studied under Larry Williams, Russell Nebelung, and Daniel Palmer. At Hillsdale he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance.

After graduation Culver participated in an intense music study in Arizona under Tom Patterson of University of Arizona. He then moved to Florida to pursue his natural gift of teaching at The Classical Academy of Sarasota. He taught K-12 music history, theory, and composition, while also offering classical guitar lessons and leading a guitar ensemble after school hours. He had the freedom at The Classical Academy to design his entire curriculum and use that freedom to instill an appreciation for music from many different genres and a foundation in musicology and music theory in his students. Because the school facilitated a creative environment, his curriculum encouraged music composition as well.

Currently, Culver is taking a break from teaching in order to complete his curriculum for the use of classical schools across the nation. He continues his own musical education as well, studying under Dr. Eduardo Minozzi Costa. On top of that, Culver also writes music articles for counter-melody.com and delivers public lectures on 20th Century composers and musicology at South Manatee Library. He has fallen in love with the Sarasota art culture, finding that both classical and contemporary art forms are extremely appreciated by its citizens. The city has encouraged his art immensely, and he is excited to give back to it musically.

Culver performs an extensive classical music repertoire. Growing up as a dedicated heavy metal fan in Michigan, Culver often selects extreme music that uses sophisticated harmonic language and intricate timbres. As a performer, Culver is dedicated to honoring the composer by creating a passionate yet polished sound that will engage and inspire listeners. His major performance influences include such talents as Brad Richter, Marcin Dylla, Marek Pasieczny, and Xuefei Yang.

Culver’s astounding precision and raw emotion demand to be heard in as many arenas as possible. He performs every Friday and Saturday evening at CasAntica Ristorante in downtown Sarasota, where he plays classical favorites for guests looking for a refined dining experience. He also performs at myriad private events, concerts, and public recital halls. He looks forward to performing more in 2016 and plans to release a full album performance of standard classical guitar master works within the year and begin touring after that.

Beyond just the performance side of the classical world, Culver is also a dedicated composer. Though the standard for classical guitarists is usually to perform major works by well-known composers, Culver is driven to create his own works as well. As a composer, he is passionate about designing music with supreme intensity and emotion, while also ultimately retaining refined and elevated elements of his art. His aim is to apply both classical and modern techniques and styles to create something new and deeply captivating.

Culver’s classical guitar music is something altogether unique, achieving sounds that are somehow stimulating, but peaceful; exposed but delicate; and natural, but intricate. Be sure to follow Edwin Culver’s latest updates on Facebook and his website https://www.edwinculver.com/

Led by Derek Currier, this intermediate instrumental ensemble gives adults the opportunity to recharge their love of performing, and ease back into sharing their love of live music.

    Free to attend.
    Freewill donations invited.
