The Summer Sinfonia is a chamber ensemble of auditioned amateur adult musicians challenging themselves to connect local communities with specially-written repertoire.

The Dunedin Music Society seeks original chamber music inspired by historical heroes

The selected works will be performed August 2018 in Dunedin, Florida by the Summer Sinfonia, a chamber ensemble of auditioned amateur adult musicians challenging themselves to connect local communities with specially-written repertoire. The live performance will be recorded without restrictions of use by the Composer.


Any composer who has already graduated from an accredited higher education institution with a composition major focus.


Scores should accommodate all or any combination of the following (preference given to all seven performers being included) but not require electricity (sound production or amplification):
Player 1: Flute/ Oboe/ Bb Clarinet/ Alto Saxophone
Player 2: Eb Clarinet/ Bb Clarinet
Player 3: Piccolo/ Flute/ Bb Clarinet
Player 4: French Horn
Player 5: Oboe
Player 6: Flute
Player 7: Piano

Performers did not audition if they submitted proof of passing within the last seven years one of the credentials listed below from either Trinity College London or ABRSM examination programs:

  • Grade 3 (Beginner)
  • Grade 5 (Proficient)
  • Grade 7 (Advanced)
or a bachelor’s or master’s degree with a performance major (Expert) from any accredited higher education institution in the USA.

Submission Process

Multiple entries are welcome, but each composition will require its own submission form.

Each composer submitting scores grants the Dunedin Music Society, Inc. (DMS) the right to audio and video record a live performance of the submitted work(s), to distribute the recording(s) for marketing and public relations purposes, and to include the recording(s) in the DMS' online presence.

If a piece includes text not in public domain, composers affirm that the correct permissions have been secured to reproduce and perform the text used.

If a piece is selected for performance, the composer must provide all instrumental parts in 8.5"x11" pdf format no later than July 1st of the same year. 

Attendance at the performance is not compulsory.

By submitting a music composition to the DMS, the composer of the piece agrees to the guidelines and terms outlined here. The composer guarantees that the submitted score is his or her own original work and sole property, and that all licenses necessary to comply with any copyright obligations relating to the composition have already obtained.

The DMS reserves the right to not choose any submitted compositions for performance or recording, if pieces of sufficient quality are not found.
